It is recorded in the Commissioner Court Records of Kaufman County of an election held in the county February 26, 1861 on the issue of secession.

War patrols were established [to control] disturbance while the country was in a chaotic condition.

Company A. Terrell's Texas Cavalry Regiment consisted mostly of men from Prairieville and the eastern portion of the county.
