CEDAR GROVE CEMETERY (WHITE), Kaufman County, Texas

Cedar Grove Cemetery is located in the northeast section of

Kaufman County near what was the Cedar Grove Community. Cedar Grove was established in the 1840's by Adam Sullivan and William Gibbard. At the close

of the Civil War, its post office was the second most active in the county.

Nearly five thousand people lived there at the peak of its growth, but when the

railroad was built through Wills Point, the town of Cedar Grove dwindled to

two or three stores and by the 1930's it was virturally gone. Today, the cemetery is the only reminder that the once busy community existed.

The original enumeration of the cemetery in 1990 was made by

Rembert Lechner, Arlene and Wilbert Jurgens, Lou and Hulon Miller, Albert Howie, Harold O'Neil, and the Neils of Wills Point, Texas. The survey was published by the Kaufman County Genealogical Society in July, 1990.

Take US 80 to Wills Point, Texas. Turn left onto VZ County Road

3805 and go for seven miles to the county line. At the gravel road proceed for one-half mile to the cemetery on the right.
