(1813) DEED - STUART TO GORE THIS INDENTURE made this 10th day of September one one thousand eight hundred and thirteen between Alexander Stuart of the County of Augusta and State of Virginia of the one part and Henry Gore of Giles County and State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that for & in consideration of one dollar current money of this commonwealth to the Said Alexander Stuart in hand paid at ____ before the ensealing of these presents He eccept thus of he doth hereby acknowledge hath granted bargained and sold unto the said Henry Gore and his heirs a certain tract or parcell of Land containing two hundred and seventeen acres by Survey lying and being in Giles County on Stony run a branch of Iland creek and bounded as follows towit, BEGINNING at two white oaks near a corner of Robert Clendenans South fifty six poles to a white oak South eighty eight degrees west twenty poles crossing the run to a hickory South Eighteen degrees East forty poles to an ash South fifty seven degrees East forty six poles crossing a branch to two hickories North Seventy two degrees East one hundred sixty four poles to a poplar and Shugar tree N thirty three degrees East one hundred (looks like a line was lost at bottom of p. 314) North thirty one degrees west one hundred and twenty four poles to a black oak South Seventy eight degrees west forty six poles to a white oak north Seventy one degrees west Sixty poles to a white oak South thirty degrees west one hundred and sixty eight poles to the BEGINNING with its apurtainances to the Said Henry Gore his heirs etc to the sole use and behoof of the Said Henry Gore and his heirs etc and the Said Alexander Stuart for himself and his heirs the said tract or parcel of Land to the Said Henry Gore his heirs assigns will warrant and forever defend free from all & Every other claim or claims whatever in witness whereof the Alexander Stuart hath here unto set his hand and Seal the day and year first above writen. (1820) DEED - H. GORE to R. GORE This Indenture made the 24th day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty between Henry Gore and Susanna his wife of the county of Giles and State of Virginia of the one part and Robert Gore of the county and State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said Henry Gore and Susanah his wife for and in consideration of the Sum of Eight hundred dollars in hand paid by the said Robert Gore the receipt whereof is hereby acknowdedged have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Robert Gore his heirs and assigns one certain tract or parcel of Land lying and and being in the County of Giles on Stony Run a branch of Island Creek and containing two hundred and seventeen acres by Survey bearing date the 20th day of March 1787 when the County of Giles was then Mongomery for which there was a grant or patten issued to Alexander Stewart bearing date the 12 day of September 1793 and the said Alexander Stewart Deeded the aforesaid Land to the sd Henry Gore by deed which is duly recorded in the clerks office of Giles County and is bounded as followeth towit BEGINNING at two white oaks near to Adam Clendenens corner South fifty six poles to a white oak South 88 W 20 poles crossing the Run to a hickory S 18 E 40 poles to an ash South 57 degrees E 46 poles crossing a branch to two hickories north 72 degrees E 164 to a poplar and Sugar tree north 30 (32?) degrees E 116 poles to a white oak and dogwood north 31 degrees W 124 poles to a black oak South 78 degrees W 46 poles to a white oak north 71 degrees W 60 poles to a white oak South 30 degrees west one hundred and Sixty Eight poles to the BEGINNING together with all and Singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of Land with its appurtenances unto the said Robert Gore his heirs and assigns forever and the sd Henry Gore and Susanah his wife for their heirs Executors and administrators do covenant with the said Robert Gore his heirs and assigns that they the said Henry Gore and Susanah his wife their heir executors and administrators the Said two hundred and Seventeen acres of Land with its appurtenances unto the said Robert Gore his heirs and assigns against the claim or claims of them the said Henry Gore and Susanah his wife their heirs and of all end every person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents In witness whereof the Said Henry Gore and Susanah his wife have hereunto set their hands and Seals on the day and year first above written in the presence of Henry Gore (Seal) Susanna Gore (Seal) Monroe County towit we William McDaniel & Conrad Peters Magistrates in and for the county of Monroe do hereby certify that Henry Gore and Susanah Gore his wife parties to the within deed of of conveyance did come personally before us on this day and acknowledged the Same to be their act and deed She the said Susanah being first privately examined Separate and apart from her sd husband the same being fully explained to her relinquished her rights of dower and declared that She did willingly Sign Seal and deliver the same and that she did not wish to retract it and desired us us to certify this their acknowledgement to the clerk of the county court of Giles in order that this conveyance from them to Robert Gore may be recorded Given under our hand & Seals this 24th day of January 1820 William McDaniel (Seal) Conrad Peters (Seal) At Giles March Court 1820 This deed from Henry Gore & Susanna his wife to Robert Gore which had been acknowledged before two Justices of the peace and returned into Court and ordered to be recorded Teste David French CGC
(1823) DEED - HENRY GORE TO JAMES THOMPSON THIS INDENTURE made this 30th day of September in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty three, between Henry Gore and Susanna his wife of the County of Giles and State of Virginia of the one Part, and James Thompson of the County and State aforesaid of the other part, WITNESSETH, that the said Henry Gore and Susanna his wife for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars to them in hand Paid by the above named James Thompson, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge, hath bargained and sold and by these presents doth bargain, sell, deliver, and confirm unto the above named James Thompson and his heirs forever; two tracts or parcels of land adjoining each other containing both together three hundred and fifty acres by Survey lying and being in the County of Giles in Island Creek a branch of New River and bounded as follows, towit, BEGINNING at a Hycory and two white oaks and running N 28o west 34 poles crossing a run to a white oak, N 54o E 136 poles, to a white oak, N 10o W 50 poles to a black oak in a hollow N 26 E 20 poles to a black oak N 46 W 20 poles to a Hycory and white oak, N 60o E 48 poles to a black oak and white oak S 42 E 46 poles crossing a branch to two white oaks N 74 E 60 poles to a black oak, N 24 E 42 poles to a black oak, S 45 E 72 ps crossing a branch to a white oak, S 5 W 30 poles to a white oak S 88 E 64 poles to two white oaks on the top of a Ridge, and S 70 W 386 poles to the BEGINNING. In testmony whereof the said Henry Gore and Susanna his wife hath hereunto set their hands, and affixed their seals, the day and year above written. Signed sealed and delivered Henry Gore (Seal) in presence of Susanna Gore (Seal At Giles September Court 1823 This deed of Bargain and Sale from Henry Gore and Susanna his wife to James Thompson was acknowledged in Court, the said Susanna being first privately examined as the law directs relinquished her right of dower, which is ordered to be recorded, Teste David French CGC Immediately following the above deed was a deed transfering 15 acres of land on the West side of Island Creek from William Wilson and Polly, his wife, to James Thompson. This second deed had the following supplement attached to it. This is to certify that whereas William Wilson and Polly his wife late of the County of Giles has deeded to James Thompson of the County of Giles a certain tract or parcel of land containing by estimation Fifteen Acres - lying in the County of Giles on Island Creek as designated in the deed from said Wilson to said Thompson and the deed being but Special, only warranting and defending the title of said land from himself, heirs and all or any other claiming in by or through him the said William Wilson. Therefore I Henry Gore of the said County of Giles and State of Virginia do bind myself, my heirs and assigns, that I the said Henry Gore will warrant and defend the said tract or parcel of land unto the said James Thompson and his heirs forever, from any or every older claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof the said Henry Gore has here unto set his hand and affixed his Seal, this 30th Day of September 1823. GORE TO BALT WOODRAM THIS INDENTURE made this 28th day of April in the year of our Lord 1827 Between Robert Gore & Balt Woodram both of the County of Giles and State of Virginia WITNESSETH that the said Robert Gore for and in cosideration of the sum of one dollar in hand paid by the said Balt Woodram the receipt thereof is hereby acknowledged do give grant bargain & sell unto the said Balt Woodram his heirs and assigns a part of a certain tract of land containing 120 acres be the same more or less lying and being in the County of Giles on Stoney Run a branch of Island Creek, which is a part of a survey containing two hundred & seventeen acres bearing date the 20th day of March 1787 when the County of Giles was then Montgomery for which there was a grant or patten issued to Alexander Stewart bearing date the 12th day of September 1793 and the said Robert Gore now deeded the aforesaid part of one hundred and twenty acres to Balt Woodram BEGINNING on the east side of said survey at two hickory saplings & black oaks thence running rether north west course to two white oaks and hickory saplings thence running rether south west to three populars thence running northwest neare the corner of a fence to a White oak thence with the fence on the outside to the _____ line and is considered to be the end he now lives on together with its appertainces to the said Balt Woodram & his heirs forever to the sole use and behoof of the said Balt Woodram for himself and his heirs & the said Robert Gore for himself and his heirs to the said tract or parcel of land with its appertainces to the said Balt Woodram & his heirs against the clame or clames of all and every other person whatsoever will forever warrant and defend. (1831) DEED - JAMES DUNN & WIFE TO HENRY GORE THIS INDENTURE made this 15th day of October in the year of of our lord one thousand eight hundred and (sic) between James Dunn and Elizabeth his wife of the County of Giles and State of Virginia of the one part and Henry Gore of the County and State aforesaid of the other part WITNESSETH that the Said James Dunn and Elizabeth his wife for and in consideration of the Sum of Six hundred dollars to them in hand paid by the above named Henry Gore before the delivery of these presents have bargained and sold and by the presents do bargain sell deliver and confirm unto the above named Henry Gore and his heirs forever two certain tracts or parcels of land Containing four hundred and four acres, be the same more or less, viz one tract or Survey of Eighty acres granted unto Alexander Stewart lying and being in the County of Montgomery, now Giles on the left hand fork of Island Creek the waters of New River, and bounded as follows towit BEGINNING at two black oaks and a white oak thence N 57o W thirty eight poles to a white oak N 24 W thirty eight poles to a chesnut on the top of a hill S 56o W one hundred and forty eight poles to two white oaks and a poplar S 2 W thirty six poles to three black oaks S 53o E fifty poles to two hickories N 58o E one hundred poles to a black oak on the top of a ridge N 86 E Seventy three poles crossing the left hand fork of Island Creek to a poplar and sugar tree N 34o W forty poles to lthe beginning, also another tract or Survey of three hundred and twenty four acres Granted unto _____________________________ lying and being in the County of Montgomery, now Giles on the dividing ridge between the _____ of Clendennings fork of Island Creek and Adairs run and bounded as followeth towit. (1835) TRUST DEED - GORE TO SHUMATE THIS INDENTURE made this 8th day of May 1835 between Henry Gore of the first part Manic_____ Chapman of the second part and Parkinson Shumate of the third part all of the County of Giles & State of Virginia Witnesseth that whereas the said Henry Gore is justly indebted to the said Parkinson Shumate in the sum of one hundred & four dollars and nineteen cents due by note beginning date this day which debt with the legal interest accruing the payment to the said Parkinson Shumate Now this Indenture Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the promises for the further consideration of one dollar to the said Henry in hand paid by the said Manicl_____ Chapman the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said Henry Gore has this day granted bargained & sold & by these presents doth give grant bargain and sell unto the said Manicl____ Chapman a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Giles on the waters of Island Creek being the same tract on which the said Henry Gore now lives containing two hundred acres be the same more or less To have and to hold the said piece or parcel of land with all and singular its appurtenances there unto belonging or in any wise appurtaining to the said Maniclius Chapman his heirs & assigns forever and against the claim of all and every person or persons claiming by through or under him and against the claim of all and every person or persons whatsoever & the said Henry Gore will forever warrant and defend the title to the aforesaid tract of land by these presents Upon trust nevertheless that the said Manicl_____ Chapman or his legal representatives shall as soon as he conveniently can after the first day of September next or as soon thereafter as the said Parkison Shumate shall require or the said Gore request proceed to sell at public auction for ready money the two hundred acres of land aforesaid having first giving twenty days notice of the time and place of the sale of the same at the front door of the Court house of Giles County and out of the money arising from the sale of the same first pay the drawing and recording these presents and all expenses attending the sale and then pay to the said Parkison Shumate the Debt aforesaid with the legal interest thereon and the balance if any pay to the said Henry Gore. (1835) DEED - PACK & WIFE TO GORE THIS INDENTURE, made this 30th day of September in the year of Christ 1835 Between Samuel Pack & Sally his wife of the County of Fayette of the one part and Henry Gore of the County of Giles of the other part all of the State of Virginia WITNESSETH That for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred and fifty dollars in hand paid before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge they the said Samuel Pack and Sally his wife have granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain sell alien and confirm unto the said Henry Gore his heirs and assigns a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Logan and Giles mostly in Giles on the flat top mountain being part of a survey made in the name of Robert James and pattented the sixth day of September 1800 and the part hereby conveyed contains one thousand acres more or less and bounded as follows towit Beginning at a large poplar marked SP on the south side of the flat top mountain a corner of Andrew Moore and John Beckleys large survey and with their lines N 80 poles to three chesnuts marked IS S 85 W 400 poles crossing three branches of Guyandott to a Spanish oak black oak and maple on a high ridge thence leaving said lines and with the lines of the pattent S 860 poles crossing a number of small streams of Guyandott to a large chesnut oak dogwood and hickory saplings on the flat top S 13 E 302 poles to a chesnut chesnut oak and maple and sowerwood sapling S 70 E 320 to a chesnut sower wood & two _________ saplings on a hill side - N 10 E 324 poles crossing two large branches of Camp Creek to three white oaks and a spanish oak on a ridge one marked RI thence to the BEGINNING. To have and to hold the aforesaid tract of land together with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining unto the said Henry Gore his heirs & assigns forever and the said Samuel Pack & Sally his wife for themselves their heirs and assigns the title to the aforesaid tract against the claims of themselves their heirs & assigns and against all other persons whatsoever will forever warrant and defend In testimony whereof they have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and date above written. (1836) DEED - H. GORE TO A.G. PENDLETON THIS INDENTURE made and entered into this 17th day of October 1836 between Henry Gore of the first, Albert G. Pendleton (Trustee) of the second part, and James A. Dunlap of the third - the two first of the County of Giles, and the latter of the County of Monroe. Witnesseth that whereas the said Henry Gore is justly indebted to said Dunlap in the sum of $241.05 due by note bearing date the 17th of October 1830 & being desirous of Securing the Same, he the said Gore in consideration of the ___________ and for the further consideration of one dollar to him in hand paid by the said Pendleton at and before the ensealing & delivery of these presents the receipt whereof the said Gore doth hereby acknowledge he said Gore doth give grant sell convey alien and confirm to the said Pendleton his heirs & assigns forever two certain tracts or parcels of land lying & being in the County of Giles and containing by estimation four hundred and four acres be the same more or less of Giles, being the same land conveyed by James Dunn & wife to said Gore by deed bearing date the 15th Oct 1831 & of record in the Clerk's Office of Giles County Court to have & to hold the said land to the said Pendleton & his heirs forever free from the claim or claims of the said Gore for himself and his heirs doth warrant and forever defend the title of said two tracts of land with their appurtenances to the said Pendleton & his heirs forever against the claim of all and every person, In Trust nevertheless that if the said Henry Gore shall on or before the 1st day of August 1837 pay to the said James A. Dunlap or his assigns, or to the said Pendleton, the aforesaid Sum of $241.05 cts. with interest from its date due as aforesaid, & the cost of drawing & recording this deed, then this Indenture to be void - in default whereof the said Pendleton shall so soon as directed by the Said Dunlap his heirs or assigns, after giving publick notice by written advertisement at Giles Court House for thirty days previous to sale, sell at said Court House to the highest bidder for cash the aforesaid two tracts or parcels of land and out of the proceeds of such sale first pay the expenses attending the drawing & recording this deed then pay over to said Dunlap or his assigns the amount of $241.05 due as aforesaid with interest as aforesaid, and the balance if any, pay over to the said Gore or his heirs & assigns, but should said lands not sell for a sum sufficient to pay said debt & cost as aforesaid, then the said Gore binds himself & his heirs to pay any balance that may be due to the said Dunlap and his heirs. Page 495. Will of John Gore, dated 3 Sept. 1766 John gore being in a weak and low state of health. Unto my grandson Reuben Gore son of my daughter Mary Gore, one cow and calf, the cow big with calf. To my son John Gore, one shilling sterling money of Great Britain in lew (sic) of his equal part of my estate it being all I intend him. Unto my loving wife Mary Gore during her life or widowhood all the remainder of my estate not already willed away but after marriage or death then (except my land) to be equially divided between my four children and two grandchildren (vizt) Henry Gore, Joseph Gore, Mary Breedlove, Sarah Oneal, Reuben Gore and Rachel Parks. If my well beloved wife see cause (before her death) she may appoint my son John Gore one equal part with my other four children and two grandchildren. If Daniel Welsh a mulatto now in my service shall well behave during the life of my beloved wife and never seek his freedom he be free after her decease. To my son Joseph Gore after the decease of his mother my plantation whereon I now live over and above his part already given. I do hereby constitute and appoint my well beloved wife Mary Gore executrix and my son Henry Gore executor.
